Facilities and Community

Our activities program at AISC is extensive and encompases grades 1-12. We have good facilities on our campus for activities and Physical Education. Scheduling for use of our facilities is done through the Activities Office. The facilities include:

  • A theater where we hold a variety of functions, from plays, spirit rallys, dances, drama clases, music performances and school assemblies.
  • Two outdoor basketball courts with lights that can also be used for volleyball, tennis, and for soccer (4 on 4 ) competitions.
  • Two outdoor covered areas where similar activities may take place. PE classes use the covered area throughout the day and on weekends. It’s ideal for the rainy season.
  • A small dirt/gravel pitch that is used for elementary soccer, softball, frisbee, and other PE activities.
  • A 20 meter swimming pool with a diving area.
  • Access to the United Nations soccer pitches. We hold soccer practice, games and tournaments there. Our PE classes also have access to them.
  • Acess to the city track stadium or the municipality’s stadium to do track and field for PE.

Middle School Activities are for grades 6-8. Some activities are competitive and students must meet the sponsors and the schools established criteria to make the team. It is understood that many students at this level are beginners in a particular activity and the coach’s main task is education. Matches/games are scheduled when possible to provide the maximum benefit of participation. Practice sessions may last from one hour to two hours per week depending on the activity.

High School Activities are competitive and, depending on the activity, practice sessions will last from one to two hours. Groups may meet two to three times per week. These practices sessions include any scheduled games, matches or events. Groups may meet on weekends or holidays to make up a practice or simply to hold a practice session.

    Activity Organizations

AISC is a member of two regional activity organizations. The Eastern Mediterranean Activities Conference (EMAC) and the International Schools Activities Conference (ISAC). EMAC and ISAC involve schools from the Middle East region. These organizations are dedicated to promoting and providing activities through inter-school collaboration and leadership initiatives among its member schools and student participants. They encourage inter-cultural cooperation and provide the opportunity to broaden horizons through travel. Each conference has rules and guidelines regarding age limits, behavior, use of illegal drugs, travel and housing which AISC follows.

In order for these international organizations to succeed, schools must participate in or host a tournament each year. This site usually changes from year to year. The student participants are housed by the host school for the duration of the their stay, normally lasting four or five days.
